Really rare smeltzer orchard fruit box. Stamped with name and Frankford Michigan.
In remarkably good shape given age. This is an old one given that the saw marks on the side of the board are vertical and not rounded. Circular saws came into being about 1880 up until then it was just an up and down saw. The box is still very sound with some very minor condition issues. They could certainly be used tilted on its side for books or to hold various household items. Large board does have a crack on the bottom but does not affect sturdiness. Apparently smeltzer farm is still in operation. It has an address on Joyfield and smeltzer rd. Thank you for looking this is a great find.
