Idaho Springs, April 29. —The starting up of deep placer mining has caused the draining of a large number of wells in the western part of the city, obliging the residents of that vicinity to put in water from the city water mains. Mr. Robert Turner is now putting in his foundation for a new 2-storv brick warehouse, at the corner of Miner street and Third avenue. A heavy stone foundation for a large vault is being laid, which indicates a new bank in our city in the near future. The Metropolitan hotel to-day changed hands. Miss S. Ellen Smith, who has established for the hotel a reputation second to none, especially with traveling men. retiring. Mr. and Mrs. L. V. Hunt, of Kansas City, are the new proprietors, and bring with them an established reputation as caterers to the public, in Chicago, Kansas City and late of the Clarenden hotel in Memphis, Tennessee. The first National bank building has been undergoing a large number of improvements and beautifying in the past two weeks. Communication has been made with the room in the rear formerly used as a lawyer’s office, which is now elegantly fitted up as a consultation and directors room. The plank floor of the bank is removed and a most beautiful tile floor is being laid. With all the improvements contemplated finished the office of our First National will present a most beautiful appearance. Tree planting is now the order of the day. The block surrounding our new public school house is being ornamented with cottonwood and maples, as is the lots of Mr. G. G. Vivian, on the corner of Colorado street and Third avenue. The late wet weather has given the grass a good start on the mountain sides, which already give indications of the coming summer. The beautiful lawns surrounding many of our citizens’ residences present a most lovely appearance in their new green dress and bright spring flowers.PLEASE EXAMINE SCANS CAREFULLY
