Original 18th-century copper engraving of Francis I (François Ier), King of France (1494–1547).
Bust portrait in profile within an ornate oval frame, after the famous painting by Titian (Tiziano Vecellio). Designed by Samuel Wale and engraved by Simon François Ravenet. The lower margin is lettered “Titiano pinxit. / Wale del. Ravenet sc. / In the Collection of Crosat.”
To the right is a small allegorical vignette with classical figures, a French shield with fleurs-de-lis, and putti holding attributes of the arts, referencing Francis I’s role as a major Renaissance patron.
Printed on laid paper of approximately book-page size. The sheet shows expected age toning, light foxing, and some edge wear/staining consistent with an 18th-century print (see photos for exact condition).
A handsome historical portrait print suitable for framing.
