The image shows three men standing beside a dramatic washout with floodwater flowing through a breached embankment. The photograph is titled directly in the negative “Break in the Dike” and is marked “Standish Studio.”
This appears to be another image from Fort Wayne photographer Norman P. Standish’s important photographic record of the March 1913 flood. Contemporary reporting confirms that levee/dike failures during the disaster contributed to widespread flooding in Fort Wayne, leaving thousands of residents homeless.
