Antique French Gothic Revival Polychrome Wood Bishop Saint Statue 38\" For Sale

Description:
This antique French Gothic Revival polychrome wood statue of a bishop dates to the mid-1800\'s. The figure wears a mitre and holds a book in one hand. His extended hand was made to hold a bishop\'s crosier, which is missing. His dark outer vestment bears small painted motifs and gold edging over olive-green drapery and a patterned inner robe. Saint Augustine of Hippo is one possible identification, though the mitre and book are shared by other bishop saints and do not confirm the identity. At 38 inches tall, the figure has carefully modeled facial features and a composed frontal stance. The richly painted vestments and book give the statue a distinct devotional presence. The specific saint has not been identified, but the episcopal dress clearly depicts a bishop.Like all our antiques, it was thoughtfully sourced in Europe, imported to our Oregon warehouse, and carefully finished with antique-grade paste wax to preserve its beauty for years to come.Condition:
This statue is in good antique condition, with surface wear, scattered paint loss, and cracks and holes visible on the underside of the base. The bishop\'s crosier is missing. Please review the photographs closely for condition details.Dimensions:
