A wonderful early 20th-century hand-colored lithograph postcard depicting the Palacio del Gobierno (Government Palace) in Colima, Mexico. The image shows the grand two-story arcaded government building facing a lush public plaza filled with tropical trees and ornamental gardens. A decorative iron-and-glass bandstand kiosk is visible in the plaza, and a partial view of a hotel building appears at the right edge. Figures stroll along the garden paths in the foreground, offering a charming slice of Porfirian-era Mexican civic life. The card is beautifully hand-colored in soft greens, pinks, and cream tones typical of the period. Published by El Surtidor, Z. Sancedo, Colima, México, numbered No. 31. The postcard was mailed in August 1908 and bears multiple postmarks: Colima (20 Aug 1908), Nuevo Laredo, TAM (24 Aug 1908), and a Lima, Peru arrival stamp (Sep 23, 1908). The routing note 'Via New York' is written in brown ink on the address side, reflecting the international mail routing of the era. The card was sent to Sra. Dª Matea M. Vda. de Moncayo at Matavilea 335, altos, Lima, Peru — a trans-Pacific journey from Mexico to South America via the United States. The sender, signing as 'Paco,' wrote a charming note in Spanish on the front of the card: 'Frente á esta plaza está el hotel en que me encuentro alojado (no es el que se ve á la derecha).' Translation: 'Facing this plaza is the hotel where I am staying (it is not the one seen on the right).' This personal annotation adds wonderful social history context to the card. Condition is Very Good. The hand-colored image is vibrant and clear. There is light age toning and minor foxing spots consistent with over 115 years of age. The front bears the sender's handwritten notation. Corners show light wear. The back is clean with crisp, legible postmarks and address. A rare and appealing early Mexican topographical card with exceptional international postal history.
