This charming display comes from a remarkable collection of vintage Erzgebirge wooden miniatures recently acquired from a single estate. The collection includes Easter rabbit villages, school scenes, angel orchestras, candle holders, and other folk-art displays produced in East Germany during the German Democratic Republic era. Each set is being offered separately, providing collectors the opportunity to acquire individual scenes or assemble a larger display from this carefully curated collection.
Offered here is a delightful 12-piece Easter Rabbit School Scene believed to be from the Erzgebirge region of East Germany and consistent with examples attributed to VEB Holzwaren Gahlenz and the Expertic line produced during the German Democratic Republic (GDR) era.
The whimsical classroom setting features a 3" tall teacher rabbit beside an easel bearing the German Easter greeting "Fröhliche Ostern" ("Happy Easter"), seated students at a school desk, rabbits painting oversized Easter eggs, a rabbit pair transporting eggs in a cart, and additional 1-1/2" standing figures that complete this charming holiday school scene.
Handcrafted and hand-painted in the traditional Erzgebirge folk-art style, the pieces vary in size, with the teacher serving as the largest and most prominent figure. The set displays beautifully together and captures the playful character and craftsmanship for which East German Erzgebirge decorations are known.
Condition is very good overall. The pieces display beautifully, with expected with minor paint rubs on a few. Please review all photos carefully as they form an important part of the description.
