This original photographic postcard depicts the interior of the Chapelle de Nazareth, associated with the Œuvre des étudiants Japonais (Japanese Students’ Mission), circa 1900–1908.
The image shows Japanese students seated inside a Catholic chapel during a religious service, documenting early Japanese overseas student life within a Catholic missionary and educational network in the late Meiji period.
The reverse bears institutional stamps of the Collège Séraphique (Franciscan order), including a stamp from Trois-Rivières, Canada, indicating use within an international Catholic educational and missionary network rather than commercial tourism.
A historically valuable record of cross-cultural education and religious life of Japanese students abroad.
