Kansas University 1952 Daily Kansan KU Wins Parade Handout Flyer NCAA Champs 75: $1999.99
This coming up men\'s NCAA basketball season marks the 75th anniversary of the Kansas University Jayhawks winning their first basketball championship. Led my legendary coach Forrest \"Phog\" Allen and National Player Of The Year, future Olympic gold medalist and multi time NBA champ Clyde Lovellette. It took Kansas 36 more years to win their second title making the 1952 team widely considered the best and most significant team in Kansas basketball history.Items from their championship year are very sought after and fetch a great premium and rarely come to market. Either not many that still exist or they stay in archives, museums or collections. What I have available is truly remarkable especially considering the condition and rarity.Up for sale I have a Kansas University Jayhawks 1952 Daily Kansan \"KU Wins\" championship parade handout flyer/poster with full itinerary on back. The championship game was held on March 26th, 1952 in Seattle, Washington. The Kansas team bus didn\'t arrive back home to Lawrence, Kansas until the following night of March, 27th 1952 During the mean time the school and the local people prepared for the teams arrival to celebrate with the team with a massive homecoming parade and celebration. To do so, students from Kansas University produced and printed these parade handout flyers on the morning of the 27th. These were handed out on the streets to the public and students to let people know there was going to be a parade later that evening once the team arrived. The school also published a similar front page newspaper cover which is widely known. From my many hours of research the front cover newspaper versions were heavily mass produced compared to the parade handout flyer I\'m offering. On the backside of the front cover of the newspaper versions were just regular local news reports, ads, stories and what any regular newspaper would have. Only the front cover of the newspapers gave celebration for the team championship win. The newspapers are still highly sought after as a collectable and very rare. And sell for a good amount. But the parade handout flyers had a much much lower print run. Due to rarity and how many still exist sell for much more then the newspaper version. And unlike the newspaper the parade handout flyers had the parade itinerary on the back along with the very important Dine-A-Mite INN advertisement on the back. What I read is most people kept the newspapers in a safe place as a collectable. Where the parade handout flyers on the other hand weren\'t as desirable. Most were read quickly and discarded on the streets, in the trash or crumpled up in their pockets when they were handed to people on the streets. The ones that survived were folded up either in half fold or quarter fold and placed in a book or similar item to keep them flat and for safe keeping. Alot of them were probably either pinned or taped to telephone poles or building windows for anyone to see when and where the parade was going to be later that night. They only printed the parade handout flyers the early part of the 27th. Not many of them lasted after the parade let alone in great condition. And better yet stayed in great condition for almost 75 years. Unheard of for this item. As you can imagine throughout the years most were crumbled up in their pockets to begin with or pinned or taped to bedroom walls. So alot of them would have pin holes or major tape damage. Not to mention how many were walked on laying in the street during the celebration. Not many made it home let a lone in great condition. People were more worried about the parade then condition of the flyer. My Google search says these parade handout flyers were and are much more rarer then the newspaper cover prints. As they were for one, much less of them made and two people didn\'t keep them like the newspaper. Also much more valuable due to rarity.I have collected Clyde Lovellette for over 30 years and this is the only one I\'ve seen in person or online. Was bought from a gentleman from near Lawrence, Kansas that deals in vintage Kansas memorabilia.Google stats these are exceptionally rare and near mythic ,hyper scarce ephemera bording on near extinction. Google says there are an estimated low dozens that survived. And Im sure not many in great condition. Most were thrown in the trash, damaged by light or deteriorated over time. Making these nearly impossible to find. Likely a unicorn. As far as authenticity from my research this one is real. The color aging, the pressed ink with minor bleeding unlike modern printing processes. The paper. Later replicas had bright white modern paper or glossy paper. The backs were blank. Google states the originals were 11\"x 16\" which this one is. Originals had folds where new ones didn\'t. The Dine A Mite Inn ad on the back are only on the originals.I have plenty of screenshots from all the research I\'ve done if you want to see them.Shipped well protected with signature confirmation.
