Antique miniature cold-painted bronze bird figurine in a lively wings-spread pose. Finely cast feather detail with remnants of original dark, reddish-brown and colored surface decoration.
Extremely small example weighing only 7.4 grams. Style and construction are consistent with Austrian/Vienna miniature animal bronzes of the late 19th/early 20th century.
No maker’s mark found.

I cannot call this a “Franz Bergmann”, because I can’t find his characteristic mark.
The Austrian tradition is well documented.
Beautiful little bird. Original paint visible, with loss from handling and age.
“Ready to take off” — rare Vienna Bronze songbird with raised wings.
They date it to circa 1900, give its size as only 1½ inches x 1.5”.
My little “taking flight”, or “wings up” bird is very plausibly an Austrian Vienna cold-painted bronze miniature, circa 1900, rather than simply a generic old bronze bird.
The independent existence of the near-identical 2-inch “wing-up” Vienna pigeon and the specialist-documented 1½-inch “raised wings” Vienna songbird marked Geschützt strongly supports that classification.
