You are offerding on one (1) authentic vintage late 1960s / early 1970s McDonald’s single-sided metal sign. While collectors are all too familiar with the common large, double-sided red signs that were used along highway corridors, this smaller white-background variety is something you just don't ever see.
This sign features a crisp white background with a bright red border, showcasing the classic red "McDonald’s" text overlaid on a large, yellow "Golden Arches" logo (M). It is a genuinely unique variation and represents a missing link in many fast-food and roadside Americana collections. I have never personally seen another one like it.
Condition Details & Rarity Notes:
Circa Late 1960s Origin: This specific McDonald's logo redesign was officially introduced in 1968. Collectors and sign historians believe these white-field aluminum inserts were manufactured around that 1968 to early 1970s transition era for highway exit service panels (Food/Gas/Lodging boards) and regional franchise applications.
Authentic Hand-Painted Lettering: The red "McDonald’s" script appears to be custom hand-painted/hand-lettered rather than modern mass-produced vinyl. This hand-finished craftsmanship is typical of late 1960s regional sign shops using pounce patterns and stencils, visible in the close-up photos (see images), which significantly increases its character and rarity.
A Unique Variation: You see the solid red background highway signs all the time, but this white-field version is practically nonexistent on the secondary market. A must-have for serious McDonald’s, fast food, and vintage porcelain/metal sign collectors who appreciate one-of-a-kind variations.
General Condition: The sign shows honest signs of vintage age, with appropriate scratching, scuffs, light oxidation, and discoloration on both the front display side and the plain metal back, as clearly shown in the photos. There are pre-drilled mounting holes along the vertical centerline. It has a slight curve or wave, as seen from the side profile photos, typical for a vintage metal piece.
