Rare glassy lustered yellow-green to reddish,transparent Willemite Crystals are colored by inclusions of Zinc Carbonatealtered by Sulfates and Gallium in the aquifer creating the green color andalso sporting inclusions of Hematite in the Willemite and several aestheticCalcite clusters creating pink to rusty-red Willemites and Calcites. Minor Smithsoniteis located on the backside display face of the specimen. A very complexspecimen with rich coverage on all sides. This rare assemblage of minerals fromthe Tsumeb Mine displays naturally, very aesthetically and provides excellentviews under magnification of the soul and complexity of this beautiful mineraldisplay.
Tsumeb mine is so uniquethat its very creation is open to debate. Prevalent research has led to thetheory that the Tsumeb Mine is the volcanic shaft of a super volcano thaterupted 2 billion years ago. The eruption lasted for approx. 100,00 years. 1.5BYA the dome collapsed filling the throat with sand. There are two aquifersthat transect the shaft. The volcanic aquifers are laden with Gallium,sulfates, phosphates and the like creating the stage for crystal formation.Tsumeb is one of the most prolific and highly acclaimed mines in the worldproducing very high-quality mineral specimens that have been coveted incollections since it starting operating in 1907. Tsumeb Mine closed in 1996.All mineral specimens from Tsumeb are currently in private collections ormuseums. These stones are 2,000,000,000 years in the making!
