Founded in 1985 by small group of US, Russian and international fliers who met in Cernay, France, the Association of Space Explorers (ASE) is an international nonprofit professional and educational organization of over 395 astronauts and cosmonauts from 35 nations.
From 2015 until 2019 I also collaborated with the ASE to manufacture their annual Planetary Congress patches. I have permission from the ASE to sell off my inventory.
Host Nation Themes:The host committee typically selects a theme. The accompanying patch artwork is designed to weave that theme together with local cultural motifs, national aerospace achievements, and the classic ASE elements. The National Flag colors of the host country are incorporated into the patch.
A Collector's Note:For space design enthusiasts, these patches have become highly prized collectibles. Starting around 2015, the ASE shifted from handing out traditional multi-signed event posters to providing these limited-edition, event-exclusive 4-inch commemorative patches directly to the attending astronauts, cosmonauts, and taikonauts.
In 2018 the Russian cosmonauts requested that the patch be produced with both English and Cyrillic text.
