Markings:The classic "AN" for Army-Navy acceptance stamped in bluetwice at the right hand front.
Dimensions:Measures about 45" x 25" in an uneven trapezoidal/axehead-like shape.
Condition:This parachute section is in Very Good Condition.It has been recently hand cut with pinking shears, resulting in some fraying and uneven cutting to the edges. Several scattered small spots of fraying at the middle left hand side. Some overall wrinkling.Retains a great amount of the vibrant spot camouflage colors. Boasts numerous horizontal and diagonal rows of OD stitching throughout.
Historical Background:The US military saw the success of German paratroopers in 1940, and quickly set about creating its own elite airborne units. US paratroopers jumped on Sicily in Operation Husky in 1943, and dropped into Normandy during the D-Day invasion in 1944. Those "devils in baggy pants" were issued a distinctive spot camouflage parachute, any surviving sections of which remain scarce today.We have shown a photo of Matthew Leitch as Sergeant Talbert in "Band of Brothers" wearing a makeshift scarf from a similar spot camouflage parachute section.
