Vintage handmade 4-piece western ranger belt buckle set from Mexico, dating to the 1950s. Purchased by my late father in the Tijuana area and kept in the family since. Offered from his estate.
The set is a classic three-color design: a silver-tone base with hand-engraved rope-edge borders and stippled backgrounds, applied gold-tone floral/leaf overlays, a copper panel at the top of the buckle, and a faceted red glass stone set into each piece (six stones total). The buckle is stamped MEXICO on the back. There is no silver content mark, so the base metal is being sold as unmarked Mexican silver-tone metal; the overlay has not been tested.
Set includes: buckle with prong, two matching keepers (loops), and belt tip. All four pieces have matching decoration.
Approximate measurements: buckle about 1-3/8" wide x 1-1/2" tall; keepers about 3/4" x 1/2"; tip about 3/4" wide x 1" long. Fits an approximately 5/8" to 3/4" wide strap. Total weight 2.01 oz (57 g).
Condition - PLEASE NOTE: the red glass stones on the belt tip and on one of the keepers are chipped/damaged, as shown in the close-up photos. The four remaining stones (two on the buckle, one on the other keeper) are intact. The damage is limited to the glass stones only and does not affect the metalwork, which has no cracks, breaks, or repairs. Otherwise pre-owned with an attractive aged patina, light surface wear, and minor rubbing to the gold overlay consistent with age. Priced accordingly.
