Whimsical vintage mid-century (likely 40s or 50s) Western bedspread featuring a graphic rodeo scene with cowboys on horseback, a running horse and lasso, mountains, cacti and stylized desert motifs. The design is worked in dimensional loop-pile cotton embroidery on a lightweight white cotton ground, creating the raised appearance associated with vintage chenille textiles. The embroidery is worked in a vibrant palette of blue, red, green, golden yellow, brown and black.
The spread has a particularly charming folk-art quality, with three narrative horse and rider scenes surrounded by simple mountain and desert imagery and a coordinating border. The reverse reveals the construction of the embroidery and is shown in the photographs. Two faint original stamps/production markings are also present (please see 7th and 8th photographs).
The bedspread measures approximately 105 inches long by 75 inches wide.
Good vintage condition overall. There is some light age/storage staining, scattered small spots, as well as a few small holes. The textile has not been washed or treated, and no attempt has been made to remove the staining. The embroidery remains colorful and strong, and the spread presents beautifully.
