Original vintage color photograph showing EPCOT Center at Walt Disney World, Florida, during the park’s early years.
The photograph prominently features Spaceship Earth, the enormous geodesic sphere that became the symbol of EPCOT, with the Walt Disney World Monorail traveling on the elevated guideway directly in front of it. The original futuristic architecture and landscaping of early EPCOT Center are also visible.
This is a particularly interesting early EPCOT photograph because it captures the park before many of the changes and renovations that took place later in the 1980s and 1990s. The landscaping is relatively young and the original architectural environment is clearly visible.
Spaceship Earth opened with EPCOT Center on October 1, 1982. The original CommuniCore complex, located behind Spaceship Earth, also opened in 1982.
The photograph appears to date from approximately 1982–1984, based on the original EPCOT architecture, landscaping and early-period appearance. I would not claim an exact year without additional evidence.
