Charming vintage elephant bookend featuring a seated elephant reading The Beautiful and Damned by F. Scott Fitzgerald. The elephant has a wonderfully aged bronze-and-gold appearance with touches of green verdigris-style coloring and sits atop a molded faux book with gilt page edges and detailed spine.
The piece appears to be molded composition or plaster with an antiqued metallic painted finish rather than solid metal. Based on its construction and decorative treatment, it appears to date approximately to the mid-20th century, likely circa 1950s–1960s.
A terrific piece of vintage literary decor for a bookshelf, library, study or office, and particularly fun for an elephant or F. Scott Fitzgerald collector.
