Vintage RPPC 1937 Jackrabbit Poem F V Sampson Barstow CA Animal Desert Postcard
Look at this intense Mojave Desert resident. Photographer F V Sampson managed to corner a California jackrabbit in 1937 and apparently felt so moved by the encounter that he penned an eight line poem entirely dedicated to its auditory appendages. The verses range from biologically accurate observations about catching faint sounds to deeply emotional projections about ears that beg. The rabbit itself looks like it is actively questioning why a man with a camera is reciting bizarre poetry at it in the middle of a rocky scrubland.
The card is in solid unposted condition. It somehow survived since 1937 with sharp corners and a remarkably clean back. There is a tiny bit of silvering around the darkest edges of the photograph which is a natural chemical reaction for vintage photographic paper and only proves its authenticity.
