Up for sale is a fascinating, one-of-a-kind mid-century doll crafting time capsule! This lot features a vintage 1950s Bear Brand Majorette Doll Kit Box (Kit No. 7539, as seen in McCall’s Needlework Magazine) that houses an incredible mix of original contents alongside a secondary vintage Bucilla Bride Doll crafting kit.
This set was distributed by the G.A. Doherty Co. of Buffalo, N.Y., and represents a wonderful piece of 1950s crafting history.
KIT INVENTORY & CONDITION DETAILS:
• THE DOLL: A beautiful 12 1/2-inch plastic doll featuring molded blonde hair, bright red facial blush/lipstick, and fully operational blue sleep-eyes. The doll remains pristine and undisturbed inside its original factory clear plastic protective sleeve. Includes molded white shoes.
• PATTERNS & DOCUMENTATION: Includes TWO complete original mid-century pattern instruction sheets:
1. The original Bear Brand \"Majorette Doll Kit\" Directions to Knit or Crochet.
2. A vintage Bucilla \"Bride Doll Outfit\" Crochet Pattern.
3. Also includes the original G.A. Doherty Co. (Buffalo, 3 N.Y.) wholesale distributor paper envelope.
• CRAFTING MATERIALS: Includes two balls of cream-colored DMC and Bucilla Perle Cotton thread (one still retaining its inner dark blue label), a bundle of crimson red wool yarn, and a strip of stiff white satin fabric. A previous crafter started a small section of the cream crochet work, which is included as-found.
• ACCESSORIES: Tucked inside the internal cardboard compartments are a cardboard ring holding bright gold metallic trim, a tiny fabric favor bag, miniature white fabric marching boots with red trim, and a pair of rare miniature doll-sized roller skates.
• THE BOX: The original 1950s cardboard box features the iconic Majorette graphics. It shows typical age-related wear, including split corners, side bowing, and yellowed vintage cellophane tape across the lid graphics. It still functions well as a protective storage tray with its internal cardboard dividers intact.
