Vintage African Tribal HAND CARVED Ceremonial Wood Wall Mask SENUFO Ghana

Size approx. 11.25\" long x 6\" wide x 3\" deep

A genuine hand carved ceremonial mask of the Senufo people on the Ivory Coast in Ghana.

Detailing on this mask is superb: Wonderful carved patterning known as scarification marks are on the forehead, the cheeks, along either side of the mouth, and on the stylized ears. This mask has a headpiece which represents horns [all carved from one solid piece of wood]

This type of mask would traditionally be a HARVEST mask

Made of sese wood, a local fibrous wood in Ghana which is traditionally used for carved masks and effigies.

Eye slits are \'open\'

A thick mask with good weight. Carving marks are visible on the inside.

Excellent condition, no flaws damage cracks or repair to mask other than light/normal wear for age and use. The ends of the lobed ears do have some ragged wear, this is not damage and the piece was created like this to look aged. It is deliberately made in a rustic style with imperfections to the wood and finish.
