The winner of five Eisner Awards - 3 for Best Writer and 2 for Best New and Best Continuing Series,JAMES TYNION, IV,37, is best known for his work on theBatmanfranchise at DC Comics, where he was recruited byBatmanwriter Scott Snyder to co-write features forBatman(Vol 2). His work there lead to his promotion in 2016 as head writer of DC'sDetective Comics,Justice League DarkandDC Vs Vampires,among others, as well as theNew York TimesbestsellingBatman/Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtlescrossover series and his DC Black Label series,The Nice House on the Lake.
Tynion also formed a deal with Boom! Studios in 2016, launching his first series,The Woods, with them the same year. In 2018, he launched the highly successful horror series,Something is Killing the Children,as well asWyndwith Boom! and in 2020, Tynion was announced as the head writer of Batman. He also established himself at Image Comics with his inaugural independent series,The Department of Truth. Other image series from Tynion includeW0RLDTR33, TheClosetandThe Deviant.
W0RLDTR33made headlines in mid-December 2025 as the creator's most recent optioned comic book series, as Netflix will be seeking to turn the title into an adult animated series for its streaming platform. Tynion and co-creator Fernando Blanco will be producing the show through his own Tiny Onion production company.
Published by Image Comics,W0RLDTR33tells the story of a dark evil that resides within a certain "location" on the internet -- known as the Undernet -- that has the ability to destroy humanity. A horror perfectly crafted for the internet age on the verge of an full A.I. awakening, W0RLDTR33is a timely, terrifying tale.
W0RLDTR33 launched in April 2023, with an initial print run that that experienced coloration problems across the premiere issue's main cover and two of its variant covers. The covers, already dark in black and green tones, were "too dark" and appeared 'muddy', obscuring some of the other art and details on the cover. Additional small imperfections have also been common. The error, however, was caught and corrected at an early stage, and a new print run was quickly initiated; still, a number of comic book retailers had already been shipped copies of W0RLDTREE #1. These retailers werecontacted by the distributor and told to destroy the miscolored covers ahead of their receipt of replacements.
To date, neither the number of error copies that were destroyed nor the number that were not destroyed is truly known, but the recalled cover ofW0RLDTREE#1, which its lower print run,has become the go-to collectible on the secondary market, outselling the corrected first edition copies of the series' premiere.W0RLDTR33#1-RECALLED-A(VOL 1, APR 2023)
