Description

Thank you for viewing.

This is an official Russo-Japanese War commemorative postcard set issued by the Japanese Ministry of Communications (Teishinsho, predecessor of Japan Post) around 1904–1905 (Meiji 37–38).

This is the Third Official Series: “Imperial Grand Military Review (Taisoetsu)”, consisting of three original postcards with the original explanatory sheet.

What is “Taisoetsu” (Imperial Grand Review)?

“Taisoetsu” refers to a large-scale imperial military review, where the Emperor personally inspected army and navy units.

It was one of the most important state ceremonies of Imperial Japan, symbolizing victory, national unity, and military authority during wartime.

This set was produced as an official historical record, not as a private souvenir.

Contents of the 3 Postcards

Card 1 (Top)

• High-ranking military figure (imperial family member or field marshal class)

• Troops standing in formation

• Review ground scenery

Card 2 (Middle)

• Military parade and marching troops

• Musical staff motif symbolizing military band music, a distinctive design element

Card 3 (Bottom)

• Portrait of an imperial military figure

• Warships, salutes, and ceremonial decorations

• Imperial-style ornamental frame

Original Explanatory Sheet

The included sheet certifies that this was an officially distributed three-card set.

It lists “Collector: Okuda Yoshihide”, believed to be a contemporary postcard and postal ephemera collector who organized and preserved the set.

This sheet significantly enhances historical authenticity and collector value.

Condition

• Visible age-related wear, toning, stains, and paper aging

• No major tears or losses
