Here's a hard-to-find, all-original 1922-24 Western Electric loop antenna. Among the largest loop aerials manufactured in the 20's, it stands more than 3 feet tall and has roughly 100 feet of loping, cloth-covered wire stretched in twelve turns across its handmade wood frame. The loop can be rotated up to 210 degrees on its turned wood base. The wire is nestled in v-shaped grooves cut into the ends of the tensioning arms. Leased to radio stations (and sold -- illegally -- to individuals) as part of the tuning apparatus for its series of superheterodyne radios (the flat cotton wiring harness has three leads that correspond to the antenna terminals on those sets).
Condition of this example is very good throughout. Paint is original, with scattered marks and signs of wear consistent with age and authenticity. Loop wire is original, with minimal fraying. Wood frame is structurally sound, with no cracked or damaged arms. Wire still sits neatly in the grooves. Wiring harness is original, and all three wire leads still project from the end. Loop rotates smoothly on the base.
