Features a massive asymmetrical iron blade, sweeping cutting edge, and an unusuallong forged socket extending down the hardwood haft and secured with an iron pin. The iron retains heavy age, oxidation, pitting and forged texture, while the wooden handle shows deep natural wear and patina.
Based on its construction and comparison with documented period examples, we believe this to be a17th-century executioner/heading axe type. No provenance exists connecting this particular axe to a documented execution, so we make no claim regarding its specific historical use.
