Antique 1880s-1910s JEWEL No. 4 Skater's KEROSENE Oil Lamp LANTERN w/Clear Globe
Here is a nice looking and complete antique skater's lantern that was manufactured by the Jewel Lamp Company between 1880s and 1910s.
This tiny, fixed-globe kerosene lamp was specifically engineered for ice skaters, sledders, or night walkers.
It is 7 inches tall (excluding the wire bail handle).
It features a perforated tin cap stamped with the "JEWEL" brand name, a lower burner reservoir, and a small side thumb-wheel to adjust the wick.
Skaters lamps were designed to be lightweight, sturdy, and wind-resistant. Because they were routinely exposed to harsh outdoor elements and dropped on frozen rinks, surviving units with original parts and uncracked glass are highly collectible.
The glass globe is in very clean condition, clear in color with maybe a slight purplish tint but no damage, metal reservoir is fine and solid would hold still fuel, some overall light surface rust, still has original wick in burner, wick wheel slips some but does turn, no serious dents or dings - an overall nice example.
