BEAUTIFUL COLLECTION OF 16 ANTIQUE SEED PACKETS — EARLY 1900s — GORGEOUS COLOR LITHOGRAPHY!
Offered is a wonderful collection of 16 original antique seed packets, featuring an assortment of beautifully illustrated flowers, vegetables, and ornamental plants.
These are lovely examples of early American commercial lithography, displaying exceptionally detailed botanical illustrations, rich colors, and wonderful period advertising artwork.
OF SPECIAL INTEREST ARE THE DIFFERENT COMPANY NAMES, PRINTING CREDITS, AND COPYRIGHT DATES REPRESENTED THROUGHOUT THE COLLECTION.
Names appearing on the packets include Burt\'s Seed Quality, William D. Burt of Dalton, New York, Genesee Valley Lithograph Co. of Rochester, New York, and Modern Litho & Printing Corp. of Buffalo, New York.
One particularly attractive packet advertising The Great Decorative Fountain Plant carries a 1915 copyright date, while the Chrysanthemum packet bears a 1918 copyright credit.
The collection includes vegetables, flowers, and ornamental plants such as carrots, turnips, peas, peppers, onions, tomatoes, chrysanthemums, poppies, dianthus, sweet peas, Canterbury bells, sunflowers, larkspur, portulaca, and wildflowers.
The original illustrations are simply wonderful! Notice the rich reds, greens, yellows, and delicate pastel shades, along with the fine detail in the flowers and vegetables.
Several packets retain their original printed planting instructions on the reverse, along with the original folded paper construction. Some feature their original 10-cent prices.
CONDITION:
Very nice antique condition overall, especially considering their age and delicate paper construction.
The colors remain remarkably strong and vibrant. There is expected age-related toning, occasional light spotting, minor edge and corner wear, and some wear along the original folds. A few packets have additional handling wear and small imperfections, all consistent with their age.
Please examine the photographs carefully for the best representation of each individual packet and its condition.
ALL 16 ORIGINAL ANTIQUE SEED PACKETS ARE INCLUDED AND WILL BE SOLD TOGETHER AS ONE LOT.
