Vintage Maruhon Ware
\"Hen on Nest\" Covered
Ceramic Dish - Hand
Painted, Made in Japan
(c. 1920s-1930s)
Up for sale is a beautiful authentic antique two-
piece ceramic \"Hen on
Nest\" covered dish
crafted by the renowned
manufacturer Maruhon
Ware. This charming
country farmhouse piece
features a realistically
sculpted nesting hen
sitting atop a basketweave base. It is heavily styled after European Majolica pottery, showcasing a
glossy glaze, raised relief textures, and a vibrant hand-painted color
palette of soft yellow,
muted green, and slate
gray-blue plumage
accented by a classic red
comb.
The bottom of the basket is clearly stamped with
the authentic pre-WWIl
Maruhon Ware
backstamp: \"Maruhon
Ware\" surrounding the
letter \"K\" in a circle.
over \"Hand Painted Japan\" As is
standard and expected
for Japanese pottery of
this era, the piece exhibits overall glaze crazing (fine spiderweb-like lines under the shiny finish). This naturally
occurring aging process
adds wonderful antique
character and confirms
its genuine pre-war age.
There are no chips or cracks. Measurements are in the pictures. A Very Nice Pre WWll ceramic piece.
