Antique 19th C Folk Art Geometric Parquetry Inlaid Wood Document Box Chest For Sale

I would say this is probably the best looking box I have had in some time ! This is all about the surface which is original , the way the light reflects off the contrasting strips of wood , someone used this box everyday there is finish wear nicks scratches marks which is in the original finish probably not actually in the wood , just really adds to the character , there is something written in pencil on the lid saying 348 pieces, now not sure if that\'s how many strips of wood they used ? there is paper inside the base with a name and an inscription of packed by , so very interesting to think what was in it . Such a great warm glow with contrasting colors making this an outstanding example of American folk art, probably late 1800s I would say , this would be eye catching in any room !
