Early 19th century linen and wool work sampler by Esther Bavey aged 10. Though undated, the style of stitch work would indicate this piece dates to c.1840 or slightly earlier. This sampler is just delightful with fine quality stitch work throughout. The upper section of the linen is stitched with a central floral edged plaque with a tree surrounded by diamonds, hearts, a star and flower with a bird on top and containing the following biblical quotation which has a crown and diamond to the right side and finishing with the numbers 1 through to 6

The middle section of the linen is stitched with a central floral urn with a bird standing on its topmost bloom who has a fleur-de-lys, crown, carnation, rose basket and heart to his left and right. The urn itself has a fruit basket with a carnation above to either side followed by a tall floral motif, both with a dog, anchor, heart and butterfly to their outer side.The lower section of the linen is stitched with a central floral edged plaque containing Esther\'s details with a windmill, two diamonds and two hearts to each side, then the whole piece is surrounded by a floral border.
The linen has overall discolouration consistent with its age, very slightly darker in places, marginally more across the top edge. The sampler is behind glass so I\'m not able to seethe reverse, but the colours of the wool appear good though they are likely to have mellowed to some extent over the years. The sampler is contained within a mid 20th century gilded frame with inner detailing. The frame is in good condition with some scratches and scuff marks commensurate with its age, intentional distressing to the gilding and a few old losses to the inner detailing.
Measures 11 3/4\" x 11 3/4\" (sight size) and 15 1/4\" x 15 1/4\" including the frame.

AS SUCH, SOME OF MY PHOTOS APPEAR SOMEWHAT DARK OR HAVE A SLIGHTLY FIERY OR YELLOWISH LOOK TO THEM WHICH IS NOT THE CASE, IT\'S JUST MY INCOMPETENCE!
