This Razor: Produced sometime between 1837 and 1850 by Sheffield cutler Marshes & Shepherd at their Pond Works, this intentionally tapered blade is a real find.These intentionally tapered blades were a fascinating design which made an appearance in the 1830s wherein both the width and the thickness of the blade were tapered so as to maintain a proper angle on the bevel when honed on a stone. This razor\'s width spans from 13/16++\" at the heel to 5/8\" at the toe. The spine thickness spans from 1/4th\" at the shoulder to 5/32nds\" at the toe. The blade has a generous smile, yielding maximum comfort while shaving. The sculpted tang is a great feature which increases comfort and grip. The tang stamp includes a V♔Rroyal stamp indicating the makers\' place of favor during the early reign of queen Victoria.
These tapered razors have a small but potent following of connoisseur wet shavers who understand the complexity of their brilliant design.
This one comes with its original coffin box in fair shape.
The Work: I refurbished this blade by unpinning it, removing all rust, carefully polishing it to a nice sheen. I made custom scales from brown water buffalo horn. I put it back together with stacked beehive - bullseye brass collars and brass pivot washers to enhance its already impressive longevity. Please scrutinize the photos for details. 180+ years old and still going strong, ready to serve several more generations!

My Story: I fell in love with vintage straight razors some years back when I became irritated with the exorbitant cost of disposable razor cartridges. I taught myself to refurbish antique straight razors, utilizing my background in jewelry and sculpture in learning to make custom razor scales, to pin them properly, and, through great effort and dedication, have gained a reputation for nicely honed shaving edges. Each of these blades is a journey, with a history. A man\'s hands created it long ago to last for generations. You and I are part of those generations. I try to be sensitive and cognizant of the historical context of each razor, as well as the spirit and intentions of the original blade-maker so that I may bring them back to life for you, my customer.
