The OR:
The Master Edition of The War of the Rebellion a Compilation of the Official Records of the Union and Confederate Armies is the result of two years effort creating a two DVD product that contains the entire OR (all 128 volumes) in both searchable and page perfect presentation. In this edition, every page looks exactly as it would if you opened a physical book. That means that all the images, tables and indexes are properly organized and easily readable - something that doesn't exist in most digital versions of the OR. In most instances, the tables have been all jumbled by the process to convert the books to text - and any images are completely gone - but that is not the case in the Master Edition.
The Naval OR:
The Master Edition of The Official Records of the Union and Confederate Navies in the War of the Rebellion is the result of one year effort creating a DVD product that contains the entire Naval OR (all 30 volumes) in both searchable and page perfect presentation. In this edition, every page looks exactly as it would if you opened a physical book. That means that all the images, tables and indexes are properly organized and easily readable - something that doesn't exist in most digital versions of the Naval OR. In most instances, the tables have been all jumbled by the process to convert the books to text - and any images are completely gone - but that is not the case in the Master Edition.
The Atlas:
The Atlas to Accompany the Official Records of the Union and Confederate Armies (AKA the War of the Rebellion Atlas) was published as a companion piece to the Official Records of the American Civil War.
The Atlas contains three types of illustrations: maps, illustrations based on photographs, and illustrations and technical drawings.
- Maps: A total of 156 plates containing maps ranging from small-scale engagements to regional views and date-specific snapshots of long-running sieges like Vicksburg and Atlanta.
- Illustrations based on photographs: Twelve plates that include images of Charleston Harbor and Ft. Sumter, Missionary Ridge and various elements of mid-nineteenth century warfare.
- Illustrations and technical drawings: Ten plates containing diagrams of defensive elements (redoubts, redans, and forts, for example), equipment and armaments, uniforms, and flags.
Note that the images in the Atlas are in jpeg2 format. A viewer may need to be installed to view the images. There are instructions on the Atlas DVD for doing this on Windows based computers. There are jpeg2 viewers for Macintosh computers but we do not provide any links/instructions as we are a Windows shop so if you are running on a Macintosh platform, please be sure you can find/access a jpeg2 viewer before purchasing..

If you have looked at tables in other versions of the OR (our low cost version included), it looks like a jumble of text because the normal page to text (OCR) process does not know how to maintain table integrity.

This DVD set runs on all Windows. (Note to Macintosh users: All the books in the OR and the Naval OR are PDF files and will work perfectly fine on your computer. The atlas pages are in jpeg2 format. If you have access to a jpeg2 viewer, it will work perfectly for you.) You must have a web browser and Adobe Acrobat Reader - (available for free download if you do not have it installed on your computer.) The book index is organized in an HTML menu that is compatible with all browsers and the books themselves are in PDF format to allow them to be universally accessed. All of the books on this DVD are searchable and all are printable.
