An impressive original partly printed document on laid paper, signed “Bonaparte” by Napoleon Bonaparte as First Consul of the French Republic. Issued at Saint-Cloud on October 20, 1803, it confirms Citizen Dubois in his position as notary at Pont-Sainte-Maxence—an office he had originally held since 1782.
The document features an engraved allegorical representation of the French Republic, manuscript entries, an embossed state seal, and the additional signatures of Minister of Justice Claude Ambroise Régnier and Secretary of State Hugues-Bernard Maret.
Condition: Very good overall for a document more than 220 years old. The laid paper displays expected horizontal and vertical folds, light toning, scattered minor foxing and soiling, edge wear, and contemporary docketing along the left margin. The engraved heading, manuscript entries, signatures, and embossed state seal remain clearly visible.
