Rare Program c.1898 Slaves Of The Silver Serpent Brown Palace Festival Ball: $200.00
Please read condition description. This Program is designed like a dance program but also functioned as a ticket. I believe it is from the 1898 Denver Festival of Mountains and Plains and The Slaves Of The Silver Serpent group who had much to do with managing the Festivals in 1895,6,7,8 plus 1901 and 1912. The Festival was often called the Denver Mardi Gras because of its four days of 5 mile long parades with costumes, masks,up to 25 bands sometimes playing in unison, many special events and general revelry. Originally begun in 1895 after the US 1893 Silver Standard was changed, nearly bankrupting Colorado, the festival always highlighted the Slaves Of the Silver Serpent, a colorful ,mostly private group of community leaders in business and the arts. I separately listed a souvenir medallion from the 1896 Festival but this program also comes from the estate of a woman named Annie Laurie who lived at the Brown Palace beginning in 1896. This Ball was held there. I suggest 1898 because the embossed cover illustration,by G. Vickford, is topped by both the US and Cuban flags. The Festival honored the Spanish-American War of 1898 that year. Wreathed by the Silver Serpent, Uncle Sam,George Washington, kings and explorers welcome the Queen of Hearts. Shipped First Class with Tracking and Insurance. All Sales are final.
