From 1947-1948 The Tucker Corporation issued a unique brass badge to each employee. The badges were issued in several colors, letters, and numbers and are highly sought after artifacts today. Using theoriginal artifactas a guidePreston Tucker LLC has recreateda modern exampleof the famousTucker Corporation employee badge. Like the originalit features a color backfilled edge with the words "Tucker Corporation" along with center black backfilled numbers and letters.The recreation employee badge features the same font and text locationas the original. The reverse side of the badge features two pins with clasp connectors which intentionally differs from the original single connector to ensure the two are not confused with each other. The Tucker '48 was the brainchild of Preston Tucker and introduced features that were far beyond the typicalspecificationsof anautomotivebuilt in the late 1940's. The Tucker had a 6 cylinderhorizontallyopposedengine placed in the rear.Thisengineproduced 166 hp and 372 ft/lbs of torque; good for a 0-60 time ofaround10 seconds and a top speed of well over 100 mph. The Tucker was not just aboutperformance- safety features were a major part of the design and included a pop-out safety glass windshield,collapsiblesteering column, padded dashboard, front crash compartment, and many other features neverbeforeseen in anautomobile. The centerpiece of the design is the cyclops thirdheadlightthatturnedwith the wheels toassistthe driver in seeing around corners. The Tucker also had design ideas witheconomicsin mind. For instance, the front bench seatcushionwas the same as the rear seatcushion; the idea being that the front wore out faster so you could just swap them to extend thelifeof theupholstery.
