• The Story: Sister Alyonushka and Brother Ivanushka is a well-known Russian folk tale. In the story, the little brother Ivanushka ignores his sister's warnings and drinks from an enchanted animal puddle (in this case, a goat's hoofprint), which turns him into a small goat. The artwork depicts the climax of the story where a kind prince/merchant on a horse discovers Alyonushka and the little transformed goat.
• The Art School: The abbreviation п. Холуй indicates the box was painted in Kholuy, one of the four traditional Russian villages celebrated worldwide for high-quality lacquer miniature painting.
• The Artist: V. Vasiliev is the signature of the master artist who hand-painted this specific miniature lacquer piece.
