This is a bent billiard in a smooth, dark finish, fitted with an acrylic saddle stem cut with a fishtail slot over a 9mm filter chamber. The pipe has been smoked before and comes to us in good condition, with a faint scratch running around the briar.

The billiard is one of the oldest working shapes in the pipe rack: a cylindrical bowl of near-even wall thickness set on a shank that runs, in the bent version, downward in a single curve to the bit. The bend does two practical things. It shortens the working distance between the bowl and the teeth, so the pipe sits lower and closer to the jaw, and it lets the smoker look past the bowl rather than over it. A straight billiard points out; a bent billiard tucks in. Both share the same proportion rule - the bowl height and chamber depth should read as roughly companion measurements, and here a 50mm bowl over a 42mm chamber keeps that relationship close.
The stem is acrylic, cut in a saddle profile - a stepped block rather than a smoothly tapered wedge - fitted with a fishtail slot at the bit. A fishtail opening widens and flattens just before the tip, spreading the airflow across a broader slot than a single round hole would give, which is the usual reason makers cut one into a filtered stem: it keeps the draw open even with a 9mm filter seated in the shank reducing the bore. The filter itself does the same job any 9mm cartridge does in a chamber this size - it sits in the airway between bowl and stem and is the smoker\'s choice whether to run the pipe with or without it, since most 9mm systems accept adapters for unfiltered smoking as well.
