Vintage 1907 Comic Postcard I\'m Going To Take A Little Trip String Prank
Here we have a classic comic postcard featuring a rather confident gentleman with his cigar and suitcase blissfully unaware that a mischievous kid has rigged a tripwire to a fire hydrant. He is about to take a literal little trip. But the real star of the show here is the handwritten message wrapping around the front borders. The sender mailed this from Cleveland in July 1907 and used the margins to gossip about local transit politics making bets on whether Tom Johnson could settle the streetcar problem. As for the physical condition this mailed card shows typical signs of its journey. You will see some standard corner rounding and light edge wear. The back has some postal smudging a prominent Cleveland postmark and minor age toning. The sender filling up the front margins with ink is standard practice for early postcards but definitely worth noting.
As an authentic vintage piece, this item may show typical signs of age, which can include minor edge wear, soft or bumped corners, slight yellowing, and light surface blemishes. Please carefully examine all provided high-resolution photos for the most accurate and definitive representation of the item\'s condition prior to purchasing. Trivia Corner
The sender of this card was gossiping about some serious local history! They explicitly mention the streetcar problem and Tom Johnson\'s advice. Tom Johnson was the progressive mayor of Cleveland at the time and he was right in the middle of the famous Streetcar Wars of 1907. He was fighting fiercely against private transit monopolies to lower fares to just three cents and bring the city transit system under public control. Our sender was literally using this goofy comic card to place bets on municipal transit politics!
