Vintage 1907 Postcard San Antonio Street El Paso Texas Tarjeta Postal Flag Cancel
Welcome to 1907 El Paso Texas where the horse buggies ruled the roads and the utility poles were basically just entire trees stripped of their branches. You can spot some fantastic early brick architecture and a great vintage cigars sign hanging over the left sidewalk. The sender managed to squeeze a quick note into the right margin letting their friend in Michigan know they were feeling fine. The postal clerk then enthusiastically slammed an inked flag cancellation mark right onto the front of the card over the street view. As for the physical condition this antique Texas traveler has a few battle scars. You will see corner wear edge rubbing and a very prominent vertical crease or short tear near the bottom left corner by the publisher text. The back features standard age toning and some light smudging from its long journey north.

Take a close look at the top of the back of this card. Instead of just the standard Post Card heading it prominently features Tarjeta Postal and Carte Postale. Because El Paso was such a massive international border hub early publishers like Henry S Beach intentionally printed these multilingual backs to ensure there was absolutely no confusion when mail inevitably crossed the border into Mexico or headed overseas via the Universal Postal Union.
