Santa Croce mark refers to a region in Florence, Italy where silver/metalwork artisans created beautiful handcrafted silver pieces, jewelry and silversmithing during the early to mid 20th century. This compact is intricating carved with floral scrolls and center medallion on the front for your monogram and lovely geometric lines and designs on the reverse and at 73.78grams it has a wonderful feel in the hand. It's quite stunning. I think this piece is unique as vintage Italian silver is usually marked 800, i.e., continental silver but this is 925 purity. The piece has an additional mark which is hard to make out but it may say PERU, which would explain the 925 silver mark. Peruvian silver was higher quality as they had an abundance of the mineral where Italy did not, of course this is all speculation from what I could gather from my research. Ether way, the compact is beautifully and heavily engraved which is indicative of Italian metalwork.
