Authentic Vintage Indonesian Golok Sword / Heavy Utility Dagger – Hand-Carved Water Buffalo Horn Handle & Matching Relief-Carved Horn Scabbard – Fanged Beast / Mythic Tiger (Macan) Pommel – Flush Silver Pins – 17-1/8" Overall
Up for sale/sale is a hand-carved Vintage Indonesian Golok (Bedog), measuring 17-1/8" overall with an 11-1/2" hand-forged carbon steel blade.
Originating from the renowned cutlery and wood/horn carving traditions of West Java (Sunda/Banten), this presentation-grade piece features an imposing handle carved from a single solid piece of natural black water buffalo horn, terminating in an intricately detailed fanged beast pommel (depicting the legendary Macan / Javan Tiger guardian) with subtle finger grooves.
It is housed in its matching, high-relief hand-carved two-piece buffalo horn scabbard (sarung), assembled with flush silver/white metal mechanical pins.
Ethnographic Highlights & Field Specifications:
Indonesian Golok Blade Architecture: Features an 11-1/2" blade with a sweeping recurved cutting belly, terminating in a sharp upswept point that meets the spine, backed by a long, shallow false grind along the 3/16" thick spine.
Hand-Forged Carbon Steel: Exceptional surface condition for its vintage, showing clean, bright steel with crisp grind boundaries and no deep pitting or active rust.
Matching Pinned Horn Scabbard: Built from two matching carved slabs of natural buffalo horn detailed with raised traditional relief work, secured along the seams with flush-ground silver pins.
Physical & Cosmetic Condition (Detailed & Transparent):
Blade Steel & Edge: Clean, straight, and structurally sound with an intact edge profile and sharp tip. Surfaces remain bright and well-preserved with no heavy oxidation or damage.
Horn Handle: Structurally solid, stable, and firmly seated against the tang. As is typical with vintage carved horn due to natural age shrinkage, there is a visible surface drying crack extending from the forward blade junction back roughly halfway down the grip. The handle is stable, tight, and completely functional with no looseness or rattle.
Horn Scabbard: Intact, solid, and structurally sound with all flush silver pins present. The scabbard provides a loose traditional slip-fit covering the blade.
An authentic display piece for collectors of Southeast Asian ethnographic weapons, Indonesian edged tools, or traditional martial arts cutlery.
