Vintage Primitive Wooden Devil Figurines Pair - Hand Carved Polychrome Folk Art Guardians with Staffs - Mid Century Rustic Outsider Art Sculptures
Bring a captivating touch of global character to your mantle, bookshelf, or oddities collection with this exceptional pair of vintage, hand-carved wooden folk art figures.
The figures depict traditional "Diablo" or guardian figures, carved from single blocks of wood and mounted securely on rustic rectangular bases. Each figure holds a stark white staff, creating a visually striking, mirrored composition when displayed together.
Artistic Details
• The Teal Guardian: Features a rich teal/green polychrome finish, accented with a golden-yellow crown detail, striking white eyes, and vibrant crimson lips.
• The Obsidian Guardian: Finished in deep black with contrasting white-tipped horns, matching crimson lips, and beautifully simplified white-painted fingers and toes.
Their stylized, blocky forms and expressive minimalist faces strongly resemble mid-to-late 20th-century secular folk art traditions (frequently seen in traditional Guatemalan festival carvings and Eastern European whimsical devil art). Because they share identical proportions, carving styles, and staves, they were clearly created together as a deliberate set.
Condition & Dimensions
• Condition: Excellent vintage condition. The wood is structurally sound and sturdy. It features beautiful, authentic age-appropriate surface patina and minor paint wear that highlights its rustic, primitive character. (Please review photos for close-up details).
