Own a unique piece of U.S. Naval history with this Vintage USS Trout (SS-566) Submarine Wall Plaque. This distinctive military collectible commemorates the USS Trout, a Tench-class diesel-electric attack submarine that proudly served in the United States Navy during the Cold War era.
Crafted from cast aluminum mounted on solid wood, this vintage plaque features the USS Trout submarine insignia surrounded by the Latin motto:
"Illegitimi Non Carborundum"
Loosely translated as "Don't let the bastards grind you down," this humorous pseudo-Latin expression became a popular unofficial motto among various military units and commands during the mid-20th century.
Commissioned in June 1952, the USS Trout (SS-566) served with the U.S. Atlantic Fleet for more than 26 years before being decommissioned in December 1978. This plaque is a wonderful tribute to the submarine, its crew, and the proud traditions of the U.S. Navy's submarine service.
